Howto import the MIA certificate into your browser in order to avoid recurrent warnings

 

I. Internet Explorer 8
Scenario: While entering the MIA website using the HTTPS protocol, a webpage with the following message appears: "There is a problem with this website's security certificate" etc.

  1. Click "Continue to this website (not recommended)."
  2. Click the "Certificate Error" button (in the address bar) and "View certificates" to bring up the Certificate Information box.(1)



    • Click the Details tab to ascertain that the certificate is issued by the MIA organization.
    • Go back to the General tab of the Certificate Information box and click the "Install Certificate" button to start the Certificate Import Wizard:
      1. Click "Next >"
      2. Certificate Store
        • Tick the "Place all certificates in the following store" radio button and click "Browse...".
        • Select "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" and click OK.
        • Click "Next >"
      3. Click "Finish"
  3. Done!

II. Mozilla Firefox 3
Here there are two circumstances in which certificate warnings occur:
  1. The "Secure Connection Failed" appears
    1. Click Cancel to ignore this message.
    2. In the main menu, click Tools, "Options...", Advanced, and select the Encryption tab.
    3. Click "View Certificates" and select the Servers tab.
    4. Click "Add Exception...", type in the address https://www.marxists.org. Then proceed to step 2 below.

  2. The webpage "The Connection is Untrusted" appears
    1. Expand the form by clicking on the link "I Understand the Risks".
      [On the Linux platform, you use a link named "Or you can add an exception..."].
    2. Click "Add Exception..." to start the Add Security Exception dialogue.


      1. Click "Get Certificate"
      2. Click "View..." to ascertain that the certificate is issued by the MIA organization.
      3. Finally, click "Confirm Security Exception"
        [If the choice is available, as on the Linux platform, tick the "Permanently store this exception" check box].
    3. Done!

 

(1) In M$ Vista, you must explicitly trust the site in order to install its certificate. Follow these steps:

  1. Click Tools->"Internet Options" from the main menu.
  2. Click the Security tab, select "Trusted sites" and press the Sites button.
  3. Confirm that the URL matches "https://www.marxists.org" and click Add, then Close.
  4. Press OK to close the Internet Options box.
  5. Reload the page (https://www.marxists.org) and repeat the procedure from step 1 (from where you started).
