 Projected expenses for the year 2002: Apprx.: $4300 USD
(1) Yearly expense for 300 CDs (for the 2003 Edition): We will begin this year with exact expenses and a running total of our cash-on-hand. Persuant to our Charter, we will maintain some cash reserves to meet contigency costs (higher DSL fees, equipment replacement, etc.) and to help defray the costs of free CD distributions to students of Marxism in poorer developing countries. All expenses will be itemized as they occur. Since the cost to produce the CD-ROM of the Marxists Internet Archive site were part of last year's budget, the new cost for the 2003 Edition to be produced by December, approx. $2100, will be paid for by a projected sale of a mininum 90 of the 2002 CDs minus the cost to ship them (from $1 to $4.00 or approx. $300 average.) It will take the sale of an additional 48 CD-ROMs to pay for the cost ($1200) of our DSL line. This brings a total of approx. 150 purchases/donations of the CD-ROM to make our budget work for this year. Note on trade-mark fee. This is a projection we'd like to fill this year: purchase and registration of "www.marxists.org" as a trade mark name. The cost for this is $500 or, the total purchase/donations for an additional 20 CDs (plus the cost to deliver them). This is total of approx. $4300 projected expenses. We have opened a credit card transfer service with Paypal.com. This allows users to purchase a CD or make donations to the MIA. There is a small transfer fee involved, about $1 USD per transaction. This last year we relied heavily on donations to see us trough the CD-ROM production. If we can sell close to 200 of the 2002 CD-ROMs we will meet all our expenses and maintain our cash reserve.
