28 September 2003: The Rosa Luxemburg Archive added her last great speech: On the Spartacus Programme, given 16 days before her execution. [Thanks to Brian Baggins]

 

27 September 2003: The Encyclopedia of Marxism has added an indepth definition on the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. This war was among the most important of the 19th century, as it ended French hegemony in Europe and enacted the complete unification of Germany as Europe's strongest economy and military. This war would also lead to the first attempt of working people to create Socialist society. [Thanks to Brian Baggins]

8 September 2003: ODMAAA, [Society for the Preservation and Study of the Left Opposition Archives] has joined the Greek Section! “The Society for the Preservation and Study of the Left Opposition Archives (O.D.M.A.A.A.) was created by historians, archivists and scientists interested in the history of the labour movement, with the purpose of locating, preserving, making known and accessible to researchers the archives of the Greek Left Opposition and the Greek Trotskyist movement, in Greece, in archives or private collections.” [From the founding announcement] The site is currently in Greek but an English section will follow in due time.

18 August, 2003: Added to the James P. Cannon Internet Archive is his 1941 court testimony after being arrested with 18 other leaders of the Minneapolis Teamsters Local 544 and Socialist Workers Party indicted under the first use of the notorius Smith Act. The published work is known as Socialism on Trial. This testimony, in the format of questions and answers, has come to be known as one the most important primers for questions involving ‘What is Socialism’ and ‘What is Communism’ and other similiar questions. Special thanks goes to Resistance Books in Austraila for letting the JPCIA use their copyrighted published version of Socialism on Trial and in particular David Holmes whose introduction to the book we are using here.

18 August, 2003: The Daniel De Leon Internet Archive, in conjunction with the Socialist Labor Party of the US, has brought over from the SLP’s on-line De Leon Library, almost 100 documents, pamphlets and editorials written by one the US’s earliest Marxists. All the documents are in PDF format, some with the original masthead of the SLP’s newspaper, The People, included. The original HTML library of De Leon’s works will still stand, but we will attempt to “HTMLiz” the new contributions so they can be available in all formats. According Robert Bills who did the original transcription of these documents, there are over 8,000 written articles by De Leon.
