Basis of Unity of the Red Star Collective

Introduction

This document is intended to serve several purposes: (i) to summarize the political unity of the Red Star Collective, (ii) to define the conditions of entry for new members, (iii) to facilitate discussion with other communist groups for the purpose of achieving organizational unity, and (iv) to contribute to the debate within the Canadian Marxist-Leninist movement on how to proceed to the creation of a pre-party organization and subsequently a genuine Communist Party.

To further the immediate objective of forming a pre-party organization, we have defined our basis of unity as the fundamental positions around which we think it necessary for all Canadian Marxist-Leninists to unite. This definition is not meant to serve as the basis of unity of a pre-party organization, but rather as a preliminary statement of some of the main points upon which such an organization should be founded. Excluded from the document are questions which may be resolved within the pre-party organization itself.

The specific basis of unity of a pre-party organization will be elaborated in a program. The development of such a program requires further struggle over political line as well as a formulation of the tasks which follow from this line and proposals for implementing those tasks.

The Red Star Collective is a Marxist-Leninist group committed to the struggle for socialism and ultimately communism in Canada. The Collective bases itself in theory and practice on the principles of scientific socialism formulated by Marx and Engels and further developed by Lenin, Stalin, and Mao Tse-tung. The contributions of these individuals, combined with the work of countless other comrades in the course of the history of the international communist movement, constitute a science upon which contemporary Marxist-Leninists must draw to guide them in their efforts. Our responsibility, as a Marxist-Leninist group in Canada, is to apply the principles contained in that science to the concrete conditions in this country.
