III – Facing up to real difficulties and real choices.

As we have pointed out earlier, Marxist-Leninist methodology is not in itself a completed roadmap for the strategic development of the revolutionary movement in any given country. Adopting Marxism-Leninism makes it possible for the revolutionary movement to correctly analyze strategic questions and develop as correct political line, but it does not create the line automatically – a great deal of practice, study, creative analysis and debate must be done. At present, the emerging Marxist-Leninist movement is debating such questions as the principal contradiction in Canada, the precise nature of Canadian political economy, and the methods of party building. Until some unity is achieved on these and other questions, it is not possible to advance a correct strategy or develop anything like a complete political line, build links with the mass movement and build a revolutionary party. Without such a strategic analysis, and without such a party, it is extremely difficult for Marxist-Leninists to lead the spontaneous struggles of the working class in the direction of socialism and revolution. As a newspaper collective, united around Marxism-Leninism, we would still face tremendous difficulties in putting out a mass newspaper until this strategic work is done and, in fact, the lack of a strategic analysis and the basic theoretical unity necessary to create such an analysis, have led us into many of the errors we have criticized earlier.
