In August 1978 the Communist League of Hawaii and the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) successfully concluded a process of unification which has been carried out over the past year. The Communist League of Hawaii has dissolved itself and merged into the ranks of the CPML. It is with great joy that the CPML announces this new victory in the struggle for a single, unified U.S. communist party.

The following document is the Unity Statement by the former Communist League of Hawaii.

* * *

The Communist League of Hawaii rallies to the red banner of the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist). Based on our past year of study, discussions with the CPML and others, and common practical work with the CPML, the League has achieved complete agreement with the program and political line of the CPML.

Our study and practice of the past year confirmed that the CPML is the leading Marxist-Leninist organization in the U.S. and is the vanguard party of the U.S. working class. We have worked with the CPML on several mass campaigns and activities and through this work have seen the developing ties that the CPML is steadily building among the masses, as well as its persistent efforts in forging communist unity.

The unity we have built with the CPML has been forged through ideological and mass struggle. It is based on Marxist-Leninist principles. We unite with the CPML because it takes as its theoretical basis and guide to action Marxism-Leninism-Mao Tsetung Thought: We must defend the contributions of Chairman Mao, the greatest Marxist-Leninist of our time, and continue to apply Marxism-Leninism-Mao Tsetung Thought to the concrete conditions in the U.S.

By rallying to the CPML, we commit ourselves to the achievement of the Party’s ultimate aim–the overthrow of the U.S. imperialist ruling class and all exploiting classes and the realization of communism, or classless society. In working towards this aim. the Party’s immediate strategic objective is to lead the working class and all oppressed people in the U.S. to overthrow capitalism and establish the dictatorship of the proletariat and a new socialist society.

The overthrow of capitalism can only be achieved by building the broadest possible united front against imperialism and its reactionary policies, led by the working class and based on the strategic alliance between the workers and the oppressed nationalities. The united front must encompass the broad masses of people, who can be mobilized in the struggle against monopoly, in defense of democratic rights and against discrimination, for the improvement of living standards and against war and fascism. This united front is built as a component part of the international united front against imperialism, especially the two superpowers – the U.S. and the Soviet Union.

Our unity with the CPML. is based on its firm internationalist stand, including its support for the right of self-determination for the Afro-American and all other oppressed nations. The work of the CPML to free Black political prisoners like Gary Tyler, the Party’s struggle against racial segregation in the schools in Boston and other cities has confirmed that the CPML does not only uphold self-determination and full democratic rights for the oppressed minorities in word, but also in deed. The Party has also shown through practice its firm commitment to the struggle of the peoples of Hawaii for freedom and an end to national oppression.

The Party has also played a leading role in the international struggle against imperialism headed by the two superpowers. It has built support for the countries and peoples of the world against superpower hegemonism and aggression, combatted the jingoism and chauvinism of the U.S. imperialists and worked to tear the phony “socialist” mask from the Soviet social-imperialists.

The Party has staunchly upheld Chairman Mao Tsetung’s theory of the three worlds as the correct method of analyzing the present world situation. The CPML has defended this Marxist-Leninist theory against the unprincipled attacks and slanders of the revisionists, centrists and other opportunists who cover up the war danger, capitulate to the revisionist theory of “detente” and apologize for the aggression of the Soviet Union. The Party has also stood in defense of socialist China, which has been the main focus of these opportunists’ attacks.

By rallying to the CPML, we are taking our stand in solidarity with all genuine Marxist-Leninist parties and organizations throughout the world. We will continue to work for unity of the U.S. communist movement.

Today, the opportunists are in disarray and the unity movement among the genuine communists is growing. In opposition to sectarianism, communists must draw firm lines of demarcation between Marxism-Leninism and revisionism and unite on questions of principle. All communists must now judged by their stand towards unity.

We need to unite all the genuine communists in the ranks of a single party. The merger of the Communist League of Hawaii with the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) is a step towards the building of a single, unified Party of the U.S. working class.

Long Live Marxism-Leninism-Mao Tsetung Thought!
