The Workers Congress (Marxist-Leninist) and the people of the United States extend a warm and friendly welcome to Chinese Vice Premier Teng Hsaio-ping on his historic visit to our country. This visit represents a significant advance in the relations between our two governments and a further break from the long established policy of the US government to isolate China from world affairs.

Teng’s week long visit will give the Chinese leader an opportunity to further discuss both the international situation and the normalization of US-Chinese relations. The joint agreement on normalization of relations, which began January 1, 1979, opened the way for the Chinese government to return the state visits made to China by past US presidents in 1972 and 1975. These discussions can promote further agreements for the full development of scientific, technical, economic and cultural exchange that will make a significant contribution to the Chinese effort to modernize by the year 2000.

An important aspect of Teng’s trip is that the US people will have contact, through extensive T.V. and press coverage, with the Chinese understanding of the challenges and choices facing the world’s peoples in this period of growing superpower contention between the US and the USSR and the increasing danger of war. This will be a good opportunity to break through and struggle against years of anti-China, anti-communist propaganda that has kept the US people isolated from the rich experience of the Chinese revolution.

It is the Chinese Communist Party and the People’s Republic of China that continues to provide international leadership to the tasks of warning the people of the world to beware of the danger of war, to step up their struggle against superpower hegemonism and to oppose the policy of appeasement towards Soviet aggression that can only, bring the reality of war nearer.

Based on Teng’s visit and the increased contact between the two countries that will follow, the friendship between the US and Chinese people will continue to grow and deepen.

WELCOME, TENG HSIAO-PING!
