From Bobby Hutton to Fred Hampton, 28 members and leaders of the Black Panther Party have been assassinated by the agents of imperialism. These martyred warriors will certainly be avenged.
From Huey Newton to Eldridge Cleaver to Erika Huggins to David Hilliard to Bobby Seale, through the harassment, jailing, exile, through the persecution by police and courts and terror, the steadfast members and leaders of the Black Panther Party are writing a glorious page in the history of liberation. They will certainly be vindicated and will triumph.
Every member of the Black Panther Party is a hero of the people. Their revolutionary consciousness and courage in facing the imperialist enemy, in meeting counterrevolutionary violence with revolutionary violence, in continuing their daily tasks in the face of unprecedented assault testifies to their devotion to the cause of the liberation of the people. They have enlisted for the duration of the struggle to bring down the oppressive and exploitative system, its ruling class and their agents. They are a living model of heroic determination, and should be emulated by all who hold life and liberty dear.
The attack on the Panthers is testimony to the desperation of the ruling class and their inability to maintain their oppressive system with any pretense of legality. Beset by the peoples of the world, by the liberation movement of oppressed peoples within this country, they are unable to rule in the same old slick ways. Their resort to terror is the foreknowledge of their doom.
But there are moments of special significance and we live in one. The attack on the Black Panther Party must be decisively smashed. To fail to succeed in this necessary task by any means necessary insures that the fascist terror against the Black Panther Party will be the fate of all the struggling people in this country. The death of all oppressors is assured, but to fail to seize this moment means that the pattern of our days will be increasing terror, increasing exploitation, increasing starvation, increasing misery for all our people.
No individual or organization can be considered revolutionary who at this time does not defend the Black Panther Party and learn how better to defend them. Nor can anyone claim to cherish democracy who does not defend the liberty of the Black Panther Party.
The martyred heroes will eternally live in the victory of the people.
