The Seventh Congress of the Party of Labor of Albania opened November 1. Every sector of the country has mobilized for this historic event as well as for the celebrations of the party’s 35th anniversary on November 8.

These events are taking place under very favorable conditions now that Albania has consolidated its socialist economic, base and is now moving forward to the complete construction of socialism.

Millions of people the world over are looking with great hope at these events because of the inspiration that socialist Albania provides. The Party of Labor has fought heroically in the face of every scheme and plot by the imperialists and social-imperialists. It has led the further consolidation of the dictatorship of the proletariat and’ consistently advanced the quality of life of the broad working masses.

Since winning liberation from Nazi occupation at the end of World War II, Albania has steadfastly supported the worldwide forces for national liberation and socialist revolution. Albania has also played a crucial role in the international fight against revisionism, never fearing to stand up to the intimidation of the new tsars in the Soviet Union and to expose the restoration of capitalism there.

On the eve of these historic events, the 10th plenary session of the Central Committee of the Party of Labor of Albania Enver Hoxha, first secretary of the Central Committee. The meeting discussed several reports to be presented to the Seventh Party Congress. Enver Hoxha’s report on the work of the Central Committee and an economic report for the five-year plan to cover 1976-1980 were both adopted unanimously. In concluding the meeting, Comrade Enver Hoxha delivered a major address.

Leading up to the congress, the Albanian press has been printing letters from friends and comrades in many foreign countries showing the great support and enthusiasm for Albania’s development which is held by workers all over the world. A comrade from Spain extended revolutionary greetings to the congress and said that Albania’s victories are a “testimony to the Marxist-Leninist line of the Party of Labor, fruits of the great creative work and the high revolutionary spirit of a heroic people.”

To celebrate the congress and party anniversary, a number of new industrial projects were opened recently. A spare parts plant for the textile industry, the first of its kind, was just opened, as was a new coal-enriching factory. Albania’s youth have been especially active in organizing for the congress, and a number of delegations of youth activists were recently received by top ranking party officials. One delegation representing youth from three districts visited the house where the Party was founded, now a museum. They declared their determination to carry on the class struggle under socialism.

These young workers and peasants said that continuing class struggle will strengthen the productive forces and lead to more powerful defense of the country, which is especially important in light of superpower military build-up in Europe. Great strides were recently reported by health workers, who are summing up their area of work in preparation for the congress. The state guarantees its citizens free medical service and treatment in health institutions throughout the country. Tremendous importance has been placed on development of the countryside, where new, well-equipped hospitals have been set up in all districts.

The backbone behind these advances has been the working class in alliance with the peasantry and the leadership given by the party. The Seventh Congress will undoubtedly deepen the party’s revolutionary political line and set high goals for the future. Albania, known as the “lighthouse of socialism” in Europe, will continue to inspire the international working class forward to new victories.
