The Seattle Branch of the Central Organization of U.S. Marxist-Leninists

Apply Marxism-Leninism Mao Tsetung Thought to problems confronting proletarian revolution in the U.S.

Introduction

On August 2, 1975, the Seattle Branch of the Central Organization of U.S. Marxist-Leninists issued the following statement inviting all Marxist-Leninists and other revolutionary people to a meeting series on subjects of importance to the communist movement:

“Today the decline of U.S. imperialism is accelerating, its contention with Soviet social imperialism is intensifying, and it is in a deepening economic crisis. The monopoly capitalists are shifting the burden of the crisis onto the backs of the working class at home and the oppressed nations abroad, developing fascism and preparing for imperialist war against the oppressed nations or the other superpower. The task facing the working class movement is to fight resolutely against the shifting of the burden of the economic crisis onto its back, against fascism and war, and get prepared for proletarian revolution. Today the two-line struggle in the Marxist-Leninist movement is over whether or not to build a Marxist-Leninist Communist Party and lead the working class in executing this task. Arrayed against the Marxist-Leninists are the modern revisionists of the “Communist” Party USA, the “left” opportunists of the “Communist” League, and other shades of revisionism, neo-revisionism and opportunism.” (Dialectics of the Development of Nelson Peery’s Head, part 2: “Against the Reactionary Idealism and Metaphysics of the “Communist” League” by Tim Hall. p. 31)

“To contribute to the process of Marxist-Leninists uniting into a single Communist Party, it is necessary to conduct principled ideological clarification of different political trends, both present and historical, and draw clear lines of demarcation. On Friday, July 25, former foreign editor of the Guardian newspaper Martin Nicholas spoke in Seattle under the auspices of the October League (ML). Mr. Nicholas analyzed the process of capitalist restoration that has occurred in the Soviet Union. The Seattle Branch of the COUSM-L would like to contribute to the healthy atmosphere of political discussion, debate and clarification that presently exists among the Marxist-Leninist forces in Seattle by sponsoring the following meetings.

To further the process of political discussion in Seattle, the Seattle Branch-COUSM-L is publishing this pamphlet summing up the meetings that were held.
