Congratulations on your excellent commentary (June 19) condemning the massacre in China and analyzing its roots.
Unfortunately, that thoughtful and forthright article was compromised by the wishy-washy piece on Poland in the same issue, which implied that the main significance of the election was a “vote for socialist pluralism” rather than an overwhelming rejection by the Polish working class of its supposedly vanguard leadership.
If Frontline is going to fulfill the potential it is showing in analyzing the renewal process and new thinking in the socialist world, it will have to take another look at the framework being used regarding events in Poland and other East European countries.
