The Canadian Communist League (CCL(ML)) and the Arbeidernes Kommunist Parti (Workers’ Communist Party (ML) of Norway (AKP(ML)) have decided to publish a joint communique following talks between representatives of the Central Committees of the two organizations. The talks resulted in complete unity on all basic questions discussed.

This marks an important step in the consolidation of fraternal relations which have existed between the two organizations for some time. The publishing of the communique also underlines the growing unity of Marxist-Leninists based on the correct principles of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Tsetung Thought.

Here are some excerpts of the communique, which can be obtained at the Norman Bethune Bookstores or by writing to The Forge.

Presently the general crisis of imperialism is intensifying and all the fundamental contradictions of our era are sharpening. The two superpowers, the USA and Soviet social-imperialism, the main oppressors and exploiters of the peoples of the world, are increasing their struggle for world hegemony, locked in a frantic arms race. Day by day the danger of a new world war continues to grow and it is inevitable that the rivalry between the two superpowers will lead to a new world war, with the Soviet Union, as the main source of this war. But such a war can only spur on the doom of the world imperialist system and the victory of the socialist revolution the world over.

It is the Soviet Union that is presently on the rise, the more dangerous and aggressive of the two. At the same time, US imperialism presents a great danger. The two superpowers are the main enemies of the peoples of the world.

To combat the two superpowers, the peoples of the world must build a powerful united front against imperialism, colonialism, and particularly the hegemonism of the two superpowers. It is the peoples and countries of the third world which constitute the main force in this united front.

The theory of the three worlds developed by Chairman Mao himself is a powerful weapon which enables us to correctly distinguish friends and enemies on a world scale.

The two organizations affirm that: “Both Canada and Norway are imperialist countries. They are part of the second world which lies between the third world and the first world made up of the two superpowers.

The communique points out that the principal contradiction in Canada, which opposes the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, is becoming sharper as the crisis and the fightback movement of the working class heighten. The communique also points out the struggle the League is waging to accomplish its principal task, the creation of an authentic Marxist-Leninist Communist party in Canada.

The communique also states that the struggle to defend Canada’s independence is part and parcel of the fight for socialist revolution, and that there must never be any question of relying on one superpower against the other nor of allying ourselves with the bourgeoisie.

The communique explains that in Norway, the contradiction between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie is sharpening, and a strong fightback movement is growing. The communique confirms that, “The AKP(ML) is in the leadership of both the class struggle against the bourgeoisie and the struggle against both superpowers and all imperialists in Norway.”

The contention of the two superpowers over Norway is increasing and if there is a war, as the communique affirms, “It is the Party’s task to lead the proletariat and the working people in a revolutionary people’s war of national liberation. In this struggle, the Norwegian people must never rely on one superpower against another; it “must fight until all aggressors are defeated. The Party must struggle to ensure that, at the end of the war, state power does not go to the bourgeoisie, but that the dictatorship of the proletariat is established and the construction of socialism begins in Norway.”

The CCL(ML) considers the AKP(ML) to be the true and authentic vanguard party of the proletariat in Norway and acclaims its successes in class struggle.

The AKP(ML) considers it a great step forward for the working class and the revolutionary movement that Canadian communists are united and organized in the CCL(ML).”

Finally the two organizations affirm in the joint communique that, “The AKP(ML) and the CCL(ML) will both devote their efforts to mobilizing and organizing the proletariat in their respective countries in the struggle for socialism, and the struggle against the two superpowers.

Both organizations underline the need to continue the fight against modern revisionism and to defend the principles of Marxism-Leninism- Mao Tsetung Thought.

The CCL(ML) and the AKP(ML) will strengthen their support to the liberation movements waging peoples’ wars, for the oppressed nations and the proletariat and working, masses of all countries.

The CCL(ML) and the AKP(ML) will strengthen their support for real socialist countries. We hold that it is the duty of the entire world proletariat to support the states of the dictatorship of the proletariat which show the way towards the future.

We support the great and victorious Communist Party of China, the party of immortal Chairman Mao Tsetung, and hail the great victory won under the leadership of Chairman Hua Kuo-feng in the smashing of the counter-revolutionary “gang of four”.

We support the glorious Albanian Party of Labor under the leadership of Comrade Enver Hoxha, and wish it success in socialist revolution and socialist construction in Albania.

The CCL(ML) and the AKP(ML) will strengthen their support for the genuine Marxist-Leninist parties and organizations in all countries.

We will fight for the strengthening of the collaboration and unity between the Marxist-Leninists of the world and always act in accordance with the principles of proletarian internationalism.
