Workers Monthly hi resolution (600 dpi) 8 bit gray scale scans and 1 bit black and white scans: single page scans of art and photos and cartoons: Because Workers Monthly is one of the more important and well-known left magazines of the period, and because my "distribution / research grade" scans compromised some of the graphic and photographic images in the interests of keeping file size compact, I selectively scanned all photos and most charcoal sketches using 600 dpi gray scale setting. And selectively scanned most (nearly all) line drawings, block prints, and charcoal sketches using 600 dpi single bit black and white setting. This rendered all photos (some of which were rendered quite well (some of which were rendered poorly in the compact, "distribution" scans). It also provided higher quality images of the charcoal sketches, facilitating later printing these out to sharper images. 2 page centerfold images: Most (13 out of 14, if I recall correctly) of the first 14 issues of Workers Monthly contained a 2 page spread image (mostly characoal sketches, tho occasionally a block print or a photo montage) in the center of the magazine. Scans of these are found in a separate folder, which contains both 600 dpi gray scale and 600 dpi single bit black and white scans. Where the image was a characoal sketch, I scanned it both in gray scale and in 600 dpi single bit black and white. Where it was a block print, I scanned it only in 600 dpi single bit black and white. And where it was a photo or photo montage, I used only 600 dpi gray scale. The same rule used for most of the 1 page scans, described above. The last 14 issues of Workers Monthly did not contain 2 page center of magazine images. ---marty June 2012
