Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist)

On Unity of Marxist-Leninists

Introduction

This pamphlet includes statements, articles, letters and editorials from the Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist), People’s Canada Daily News, Mass Line and various other organisations and individuals concerning the unity of Marxist-Leninists in Canada, during the period of 1972 to 1975.

CPC(M-L) was founded in March of 1970, just over six years ago. The Party had to face opposition from all sides, especially from an alliance of fascists, social fascists and lackey police. Besides facing the attacks of the enemies outside, the Party also faced the attacks from enemies inside. But, all these attacks merely consolidated the Party, imparted it with valuable revolutionary experience and strengthened it in the course of revolutionary struggle. Our Party spread from coast to coast just in a matter of three years. By the time the Second Congress of the Party was called in 1973, our Party emerged as the national political Party of the Canadian proletariat. During this three year period, especially from the fall of 1972 to 1973, almost all revolutionary organisations which called themselves Marxist-Leninists came forward to join the Party. The Partisan Organisation in Vancouver was in the forefront of the trend to join the Party and to build one political Party of the Canadian proletariat based on Marxism-Leninism-Mao Tsetung Thought. Several individuals from across Canada also joined the Party.

It is important to note that the Party was established in the course of revolutionary struggle and it grew in the course of revolutionary struggle. There are two sources of cadres for the Party: 1. The revolutionary class struggle on all fronts which the Party organises itself and 2. Those who participate in the revolutionary class struggle outside the Party and without its leadership but decide to join the Party in the course of revolutionary struggle. It is also important to note that revolutionary class struggle is the key to building the Party. It is the revolutionary class struggle which differentiates genuine Marxist-Leninists from the sham ones and it is revolutionary class struggle which makes a distinction between proletarian revolutionaries and the capitulators to the state.

Revolutionary politics is class struggle of the proletariat against the bourgeoisie, that is the basic programme of “seizure of political power by revolutionary violence, guiding the proletariat in its struggle to overthrow the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie and establish the dictatorship of the proletariat so as to achieve communism.” The tactical policy and plan of the proletariat is to Make the Rich Pay! The tactical policy is based on achieving the basic programme. Our Party has, in a short period of six years, theoretically sorted out the question of basic programme and tactical policy. Unity of Marxist-Leninists can be consolidated only in the course of this revolutionary struggle to Make the Rich Pay in order to fulfil the basic programme of “seizure of political power by revolutionary violence, guiding the proletariat in its struggle to overthrow the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie and establish the dictatorship of the proletariat so as to achieve communism.”

Prior to the Party taking up the revolutionary slogan Make the Rich Pay!, the entire effort of the Party was spent on establishing the centralised organs of the Party;and dealing with the questions relating to the basic programme and tactical policy and plan: Now that the basic programme and the tactical policy and plan is adopted, the main task is to implement the basic and the tactical programme. All the statements, articles, letters and editorials from CPC(M-L), PCDN, Mass Line and various other organisations and individuals produced here deal with two points: 1. Unity of the Marxist-Leninists ( necessity to build a single political Party of the proletariat based on Marxism-Leninism-Mao Tsetung Thought) and 2. Oppose revisionism and other brands of opportunism which is hell-bent to cause splits amongst the Marxist-Leninists. During 1968, to 1972, the Party carried its politics which led to: 1. Split between Marxism-Leninism and opportunism inside the Party (see items: “Against Splits and Liquidation”, page 119, “For The Unity of All Marxist-Leninists – Against Splits and Liquidation”, page 139, “On Revolutionary Style”, page 192) and 2. Disintegration of various opportunist sects and circles that had come into being during the late sixties and early seventies creating conditions for all Marxist-Leninists to unite in one political Party of the proletariat, CPC(M-L). As the trend of unity of Marxist-Leninists deepened and broadened, new opportunist sects and circles came forward to stop this trend of unity of Marxist-Leninists and cause splits. We are now already in the period when the Party is developing its politics of Make the Rich Pay! The opportunists of various hues are running around in absolute panic and hysteria. The deepening economic crisis of U.S. imperialism and Canadian monopoly capitalism is bound to lead to political crisis also. Once again, genuine Marxist-Leninists will be differentiated from the sham ones, and the proletarian revolutionaries from the capitulators through revolutionary struggle. New forces are already coming forward to join the Party.

We are reproducing this pamphlet for our readers so they can prepare themselves for the revolutionary struggles to come so that they are better equipped to deal with the splitters and police spies and they are able to further develop the trend of unity of Marxist-Leninists in the course of revolutionary struggle.
