Political Report of the Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist)

Chapter 9: Working women must work to emancipate the entire working class and in the process of so doing, liberate themselves

Women’s emancipation is a component part of the cause of liberation of the proletariat. Only proletarian revolution has the emancipation of women on its agenda, and all other revolutions fall short of liberating women. It is for this reason that working women are most enthusiastic about proletarian revolution and have made invaluable contributions towards bringing it about. Only by joining the Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) and by leading the revolutionary struggle of the entire working class and oppressed people can women be truly liberated. There are and there have been many women in CPC(M-L) who have made a contribution in leading the revolution, and this is the concrete proof of women’s basic sentiment to emancipate mankind.

Communist women must strive hard to break away from the old family traditions and life and work tirelessly to develop new working relations, the genuine class relations between working women and men in the home, at the place of work and in the community. If communist women do not smash the revisionist and trotskyist propaganda that culture (in social form) cannot be reactionary and that thus a communist woman can live as a bourgeois and still claim herself to be a revolutionary, they will degenerate into bourgeois women. This revisionist and trotskyist counter-revolutionary propaganda is promoted in order to degenerate the revolutionary mass movement amongst women. The only task of all working women is to emancipate the entire working class, and in the process of so doing they will liberate themselves.

There can be no liberation without the emancipation of the working class, and there are no such things as “women’s issues” which are independent of the working class. Women are subjected to inequality under the capitalist system and not because of the existence of men in the society. These inequalities are faced by those women who are first and foremost workers, and then, secondarily, women. It is the fact of being workers which makes the women the targets of oppression and inequality, and not that they are women.

The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) fully supports the just demand of women workers for equal pay and working conditions and calls upon all workers to support that struggle of the women workers.

The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) thoroughly rejects and denounces the bogus male chauvinist theories which promote such things as “husband rights” and calls upon all revolutionary women to intensify their struggle against such reactionary thinking and tradition. The CPC(M-L) hails the revolutionary women for doing so.

The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) calls upon women to become model communist workers. Unless communist women become the backbone of the Party and mobilise other women to join the revolution, the revolution will remain that much weaker. Women are half the population. In North America women workers experience class and social oppression. They live under such social conditions that they can smash this oppression to smithereens if they espouse Marxism-Leninism-Mao Tsetung Thought, take up the task of building the party of the proletariat, participate in the day-to-day struggles of women and men workers, oppose “husband” and “father” rights at home, wage a sustained struggle against the class enemies at the place of work, in the home and in the community. Women workers in North America are part of the most numerous proletariat. They can certainly make a contribution to the international proletariat if they persist in participating in the over-all struggle of the working class and oppressed people against the monopoly capitalist class and all reaction. The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) is convinced that women workers will continue to make a great contribution not only in the production and reproduction of real life, but also in revolution.
