Ernest Belfort Bax

Sketches of the French Revolution

A Short History of the French Revolution for Socialists

(Part 1)

Bibliographical Information

Seven chapters of this history was serialised in Justice, the weekly organ of the SDF in 1884. At the end of 1884 Bax broke with Hyndman and together with William Morris and Eleanor Marx etc, helped to form the Socialist League. When he returned to the SDF in 1888 3 articles were added to the beginning of the series and the previous seven already published were then repeated. The paper then continued the series for another 17 chapters to conclusion. In 1890 these articles appeared in his book on the French Revolution published by Sonnenschein.
