I congratulate you on your victory. I shall immediately transmit your demand to Moscow. Direct all efforts towards sending grain and more grain to Petrograd.
 On January 16 (29), 1918, Soviet troops liberated the town of Cherkassy and Bakhmach railway junction, and mounted a successful offensive against Kiev, where the main forces of the Ukrainian Central Rada were concentrated.
