Canadian Communist League (Marxist-Leninist)

The Struggle for the Creation of the Canadian Communist League (Marxist-Leninist)

Introduction

The Cellule Militante Ouvriere (CMO), Cellule Ouvriere Revolutionnaire (COR), and Mouvement Revolutionnaire des Etudiants du Quebec (MREQ) have achieved political and ideological unity.

After more than eight months of debating and discussing key questions that face Canadian revolutionaries, unity has been realized on the major points of political line. On the basis of this unity, the three groups have dissolved themselves and have achieved organizational unity with the creation of the Canadian Communist League (Marxist-Leninist) (CCL(ML)).

The CCL(ML) is a revolutionary organization which bases itself on Marxism-Leninism, Mao Tsetung Thought. Its purpose is to struggle for the founding of a genuine Marxist-Leninist communist party in Canada, the essential arm of the proletariat in its class struggle against the bourgeoisie.

The founding of the CCL(ML) on the basis of a correct political line represents a significant advance in the development of the Canadian communist movement – a step forward in applying the universal principles of Marxism-Leninism to the concrete conditions of our country and in struggling to combat opportunism and to unite all genuine Marxist-Leninists. The creation of the CCL(ML) is thus a qualitative leap forward in the struggle to build the party.

The organization is the result of an intensive struggle over political line. From this struggle grew the unity of views necessary to dissolve the MREQ, CMO, and COR and to create a Marxist-Leninist organization.

During the coming months, the CCL(ML) will hold its first Congress, where its political line will be further developed and its organizational basis consolidated.

This document, the final publication of the three founding groups, explains how the process of unity proceeded and situates the creation of the Marxist-Leninist organization in the context of the growth of the Canadian Marxist-Leninist movement. After a brief review of the development of the revolutionary forces over recent years, focusing on Quebec, we will sum up what we have learned from the struggle to found the CCL(ML). Also included are self-criticisms of the CMO, COR, and MREQ for the work they have accomplished over the past years. By summing up our past experience, we can learn lessons that will help us in the future. At this important juncture, we present this material to clarify the basis on which this Marxist-Leninist organization is founded; to review the past in order to advance boldly towards our objective, the creation of a Marxist-Leninist communist party in Canada.
