Memorial meetings will be held this weekend to mark the second anniversary of the death of Mao Tsetung, Sept. 9.

In New York, Chicago, San Francisco and other cities, people will gather to remember the contributions of Chairman Mao, the great leader and teacher of the Chinese people and the world revolutionary movement.

The memorial meetings in New York, San Francisco and Chicago will stand firmly in support of China's continuing socialist revolution and the great victory of the Chinese people in smashing the counter-revolutionary “gang of four.”

San Francisco Chinatown will be the scene of a tribute to Chairman Mao's memory, and to China's current advances. This meeting is organized by a broad spectrum of organizations, including among others: San Francisco Local of the Anti-Bakke Decision Coalition (ABDC); Asian Students Union; August Twenty-Ninth Movement (M-L); Bay Area Communist Union; Committee Against Nihonmachi Evictions (CANE); Chinatown Progressive Association; Iranian Students Association (CIS); Communist Party (M-L); I Wor Kuen; La Familia Diaz: New China Books; San Francisco Journal; Students for a Better Understanding of China; Seize the Time Collective; U.S.-China People's Friendship Association; and the Xin Hua Mutual Aid Association.

The San Francisco meeting will begin at 7:30 PM on Saturday evening, Sept. 9 at Commodore Stockton School, Clay and Stockton Streets.

New York's commemoration will be held on Sunday evening, Sept. 10, at the Horace Mann Auditorium, Teachers College, 120th and Broadway, 7:00 PM.

The meeting is jointly sponsored by it variety of organizations including: Dominican Marxist-Leninist organizations Linea Roja and Bandera Proletaria; I Wor Kuen; the Third World People's Anti-Imperialist Coalition; and the CPML.

The program in New York will include a speech by a representative of the Third World People's Anti-Imperialist Coalition and a talk by CPML Vice-Chairman Eileen Klehr.

In Chicago, the memorial meeting will be held on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 10, beginning at 2:00 PM at the Conrad Hilton Hotel, 720 S. Michigan Ave., Parlour A. The afternoon will feature speeches by CPML Chairman Michael Klonsky, and by a representative of the Iranian Students Association (member of CIS); as well as reports by workers and fight back activists who have recently visited China, and a musical performance of selected poems by Chairman Mao.

Memorial meetings are also being organized in several other U.S. cities.
