The Red Star Unity Collective of Portland, Oregon is proud to merge with the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist).

We formed in April 1977 with the goal of supporting the Organizing Committee for a Marxist-Leninist Party and building The Call/El Clarin in Portland. Our work in a broad leftist bookstore showed us the need for a particular political line to unite around and guide our work. It also led us to the conclusion that the working class needs a communist party to lead its struggles against all oppression.

We saw the Organizing Committee taking concrete steps to build the party around a correct political line. We particularly agreed with its support for the theory of the three worlds and China. The Organizing Committee formed the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) in the heat of the class struggle, actively taking up the struggles of workers, oppressed nationalities, and women.

Over the last one-and-a-half years we have reached complete unity with the program and constitution of the CPML. Through implementing the program and using The Call/El Clarin, we have tested the Party’s line in practice.

DEEPER TIES WITH CPML AND MASSES

We have also worked with the CPML in the Jobs or Income Now Coalition, and the Party has given us much concrete guidance. As our ties with the Party have grown closer, our ties to the masses have deepened and our organization has grown. From this the Red Star Unity Collective and our friends have learned that we need the CPML in Portland!

As we unite with the CPML, we unite with its revolutionary principles. The Party takes Marxism-Leninism-Mao Tsetung Thought as its guide to action and applies it to the concrete conditions in the U.S.

We will work to achieve the Party’s goal of overthrowing the U.S. imperialist ruling class and establishing socialism–the dictatorship of the proletariat. Our ultimate aim is a communist, classless society.

We unite with the task of winning the masses of workers in the trade unions to socialist revolution and communist leadership. We will continue to organize rank-and-file workers to win back control of their unions from the labor bureaucrats. In the hands of the working class, the trade unions will be transformed from class collaborationist organizations to powerful weapons in the class struggle.

The program of self-determination for oppressed nations, such as the Afro-American nation, and democratic rights and regional autonomy for national minorities is essential for building the strategic alliance of the workers’ movement and the national movements. This alliance is the basis on which the revolutionary united front will be built.

As Party members, we will actively take up the struggle for full equality for women. By uniting women and men in the fight against oppression, the united front will be strengthened. We will show that only under socialism can women achieve equality.

As we unite with the CPML, we become fighters in the worldwide united front against the two superpowers. We join in support for the third world which is the leading force in this fight to delay the threat of world war and defeat imperialism. We uphold the right of self-determination for all nations oppressed by imperialism.

We take on the task of consistently exposing reformism and revisionism, the two main defenders of the imperialist system within the workers’ movement. We will particularly oppose the Communist Party U.S.A., at one time the revolutionary vanguard of the U.S. working class, which was captured by revisionists and turned into an agent of Soviet social-imperialism.

We support Chairman Hua Guofeng and the Communist Party of China for smashing the Gang of Four and for their efforts at socialist modernization. Socialist China serves as an inspiration to all oppressed people, showing them they can throw off their exploiters.

We firmly support the Committee to Unite Marxist-Leninists and all efforts to unite communists based on Marxist-Leninist principles and practice. The Red Star Unity Collective sees its merger with the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) as one step in the process of building one single unified communist party in the U.S. The CPML will one day lead the working class in all its day-to-day struggles and in its revolutionary struggle to overthrow U.S. imperialism.

Marxist-Leninists Unite!

Long Live the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist)!
