Meir Vilner

 

Meir Vilner, originally Ber Kovner, was a key Israeli Communist leader and the last living signatory of the Israeli Declaration of Independence. Active in both Jewish and Arab causes, he advocated for Palestinian rights and a peaceful, shared future while serving in the Knesset from 1949 to 1990 as a representative of the Communist Party of Israel. Known for his principled opposition to Israeli military aggression and his commitment to justice for all peoples in Israel, Vilner remained a steadfast voice for equality and peace throughout his life.
